Aria is ALL about independence! She gets so mad when she thinks she can do something herself and I insist on helping her.

-if she won't eat something it's probably because she can eat it with a fork and I'm trying to give it to her. I let her have the fork, and she'll eat everything on her plate.
-will wipe her own mouth with a napkin
-wipe her own nose (try to) with a tissue

This independence also gets her in trouble. She likes to discover things and do so much by herself, that she often gets told No. And she'll even randomly repeat her own name with a loud/scream like when we're yelling at her because she won't listen. Of course, she thinks this is all funny. sigh.

Part of her not listening when she's told no results in her getting hurt. During my parent's Christmas party, Aria pulled down the wooden side table with the lamp on top. She snuck out in time that she didn't get hurt. Well, she didn't learn her lesson. The other day she pulled on it again and it fell on her and the lamp came crashing down as well. She cried hard but Grandma didn't see any boo-boos. Later on, she noticed Aria was limping on one foot and favoring the outside edge when she was walking. After taking her sock off, we found out why. Her big toe was swollen, black and blue and red, and she had a superficial cut on the top of her foot. After ice and cold water soak that afternoon/evening, the next morning her toe looked better. The swelling went down and she was walking on it better. By Sunday even the black and blue bruising was fading into red. I googled broken toes in babies but nothing matched her symptoms. We mostly think it's not broken because she can walk on and put pressure on that spot. Saturday afternoon in the car she took her sock and shoe off and was touching her toe and then brought it to her mouth and gave it a kiss. Within a few more days she was standing on her tippy toes again and there was barely anything to see on her foot.


Just Like Luc, Mommy!

She thinks it's funny to try to run away when I change her diaper and get her dressed. Sometimes she'll cooperate (if I can get her interested in a book to look at), but with getting dressed, she has to stand- just like she sees her brother do. This is a little more difficult because 1, she wears a diaper and it's no fun trying to get them on correctly when the child is not laying down, 2, she still wears onsies sometimes and the snaps are just an annoying extra step at this point, 3, she's distracted easily so she doesn't stand still or lift her legs when I need her to.

Aria no longer eats at her highchair at home. We set up a kid Ikea table for Luc a year ago or so in the living room. Luc has been eating there since then. I was feeding each kid separately. Now, they're getting on the same schedule where they're both hungry for dinner at the same time and eating almost the exact same things (Aria will eat anything really). And so now Aria wants to copy Luc and sit at the table to eat. She can climb onto the little chair by herself and she beams with pride. So I sit on the floor and shovel food into their mouths. It works.

-climbed up all the steps, can get back down sliding on her belly
-likes to climb onto the step stool in the bathroom and play peek-a-boo in the mirror over the sink.
-closes open doors that we like to keep shut (i.e. bathroom door after someone is finished and comes out)
-points to eyes, ears, and belly/belly button
-puts toys back where she got them and likes to bring Luc's favorite toys over to him
-wants to play with Luc and Daddy, will grab a car and follow them around pushing it and saying "froom froom"
-blows on food to cool it down (even if it's not hot) before she takes the bite
-brushes her own hair with brush, tries to brush Luc's and Mommy's hair too
-tries to slip her shoes on standing up, or brings them over and then insist we go on the deck
-loves to dance (looks more like an ancient rain dance: stomping in place, swinging her arms back and forth)
